Lout Trip 2008 (8th annual)

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Another year has come and gone. This year’s Lout Fest was our highest attended to date with an unprecedented 16 Louts including some newbies. Returning from a one-year hiatus were Simpson, Staid and Doherty. Lots of laughs were had by all and we actually finished the trip with some un-opened bottles (a topic of discussion for another day perhaps?).

Fishing, as it always is, was tough. Damned near impossible on float day. I was shown the skunk’s backside that day for my first ever zero on a float. Saturday, however, was my redemption. Wearing my finest new bowtie, I was able to stick and land some very nice fish. Perhaps the highlight for yours truly was a cold martini - shaken, not stirred - a few seconds after releasing a nice fish (caught on what else other than a rusty spinner) while standing waist deep in the big pool behind the cabins. Many thanks, Doc! You’re out of control with that 2 piece stemware!!!

Here’s the 2008 Louts (Simpson and Doherty represented with smiley plates)

Nice fish, Brian, but isn’t that the same fish that’s been hanging in the lodge these last several years?

I’m in the middle of a software upgrade, but as soon as my new Photoshop is up, I’ll post some of the pictures I took on T-night.

Yeah - I had DeBie cast that shadow over the fish so you wouldn’t see the taxidermist’s seam, but guess you weren’t fooled. Or is that f*%k you?

Can’t wait to see some of your campfire shots. By the way, how long did it take for those bowties to register with me??? I thought I was a little quicker on the uptake, but apparently I was wrong.

The worst of it that a dozen of us gamely wore those bow ties for a full hour before you came off the river and noticed them. If they hadn’t been clip-ons, we’d have spent the hour tying each other instead of drinking your share of the good whisky.

I’m sure the great man, himself, never wears a bow for more than the time it takes to record those enigmatic photos. Could be worse, though. He might’ve been disposed to cowboy hats!

Had you all been sitting around the fire wearing cowboy hats as I came off the river that evening, I might have calmly walked into my cabin, gathered up my gear, and quietly driven off to find some new Louts - ones that don’t remind me of the Village People.
